Presentation of the project

Demographic ageing is affecting an increasing number of countries in the Global South, a trend exacerbated by rising migration. Our project focused on the case of Tunisia, a country affected by a falling birth rate, which is leading to an ageing population and significant migration of working-age adults under pressure from economic crises. These departures deprive older people or those approaching retirement of the support and solidarity of their loved ones in the short to medium term.

Exploratory research among Tunisians living in Switzerland has revealed the various strategies employed by these transnational families to continue caring for their loved ones and maintaining family ties. This analysis provides topics for future research and also suggests avenues for action at the political level and the implementation of social programmes.
