Agricultural markets are increasingly shaped by rapid and unpredictable developments, including geopolitical conflicts, policy shifts, and climate shocks that significantly impact global supply chains. In this high-stakes environment, decision-making is becoming more complex due to the sheer volume, velocity, and variability of market data. Agflow (the implementation partner), for example, receives hundreds of daily reports from a range of sources such as public agencies, private analysts, and commodity traders. This overwhelming influx of unstructured information makes manual analysis not only time-consuming but also error-prone and inconsistent.

To address these challenges, the DEMETER platform is designed to extract transparent, accurate, and timely agricultural market intelligence. DEMETER leverages a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) to extract insights from the unstructured data. At its core, the platform supports a Trust Engine that enhances the reliability of extracted knowledge by adapting the system in response to changes in data quality or user requirements. This ensures that users receive fact-based, high-quality insights that enable rapid understanding of market needs and trends.

The system architecture is built around two core components:

RAG system

The RAG system helps to bridge the gap between powerful pre-trained language models and domain-specific knowledge. This allows it to interact effectively with complex, unstructured sources such as PDF market reports and news articles. The RAG framework retrieves relevant documents from an indexed corpus and conditions the generated responses on this content, ensuring that outputs are grounded in verifiable data.

Trust Engine with Expert-in-the-Loop Oversight

Precision and reliability are critical in sectors like agriculture, where false signals can lead to significant financial losses or misinformed policy decisions. DEMETER’s Trust Engine continuously validates the relevance and accuracy of both retrieved content and generated responses. A distinctive feature of the system is its expert-in-the-loop mechanism, where domain experts review and manage a dynamic trust score. This score reflects the system’s performance and helps guide refinements in data sources, retrieval strategies, and model parameters, ensuring alignment with evolving real-world conditions.
