Impacts of climate conditions on Ambulance Emergency Healthcare Demands

Switzerland has been condemned by the European Court of Human Rights in 2024 for its inaction to protect its vulnerable population face to climate change. The proposed investigations will identify the climate conditions under which we observe a significant change in emergency healthcare demands. This project will investigate (i) Which climatic conditions are associated with changes in emergency ambulance demands? (ii) What are health problems concerned and their severity (Naca score) and (iii) Who is the most impacted (age, gender). To do so, all Vaud canton emergency healthcare demands via ambulance will be statistically analyzed over 8 years (n > 300’000) in relationship with different climatic conditions. These results will provide a better understanding of the impact of climate conditions on the health of the population and prehospital emergency services, identify climate vulnerable population and allow for a better preparedness of the public health services as well as health professional activities.
