Course

A significant part of the programme of study is dedicated to training in the main discipline (as performer or creator). The specific course in general pedagogy and teacher training also includes periods of practical teaching experience.

The two years of study lead to a Master's project designed around three axes: artistic (recital, creation), teaching and reflective analysis.

Profiles

In addition to the classical music profile, available on all the campuses, there are also two specialist profiles:

  • Jazz and contemporary music, at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne
  • Ancient music, at the Centre de Musique Ancienne of the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève.

Professional prospects

The major in Instrumental and Vocal Teaching  prepares students for teaching careers in university schools of music and conservatoires.

The Music in Schools major prepares students for music teaching in state schools up to upper secondary level. The Master's also includes a teacher training course provided, depending on the canton, by teacher training institutions or their equivalent, and includes periods of professional teaching experience in practical situations.

The Eurhythmics of Jaques-Dalcroze major trains students in active teaching methods aimed at teaching music through physical movement. This major qualifies students for teaching eurhythmics, basic music (solfège) and an introduction to instrumental improvisation in university schools of music, conservatoires and state schools.
