Coming to HES-SO

Coming to HES-SO means:

  • An education based on applied knowledge. HES-SO offers practice-based education designed around the concept of learning by doing. With programmes focused on high value-added professions, HES-SO brings students from European and other associated countries into contact with the Swiss education system and its know-how.
  • Train at a regional university with an international outlook. HES-SO has sites throughout Western Switzerland, which comprises the cantons of Geneva, Vaud, Valais, Fribourg, Neuchâtel, Jura and French-speaking Bern. This regional richness means you can choose an exchange location to suit your needs and field of activity.
  • Learn French or German. Although the majority of courses are taught in French, HES-SO also offers the possibility of studying in German in the cantons of Fribourg and Valais. This wide range of language options means greater choice for students.
  • A university of applied sciences active in international research projects. HES-SO is one of Switzerland's most active universities in terms of international research and mobility.
  • A region renowned for its dynamism and its diverse economic fabric. From the shores of Lake Geneva to the Jura region's manufacturing and watchmaking zone, a wide range of specialties are developed here.
  • A young and growing institution. HES-SO is not yet 30 years old, but it is Switzerland's second largest university. Its ranking in the European U-Multirank places it among the top institutions for interdisciplinary training and publications.
