This transdisciplinary project, coordinated by the University of Brescia (Italy), brings together researchers from HEG-FR and HEIA-FR, as well as research teams and partners from 12 other countries, combining expertise in AI, neurology, cardiology, digital health, and behavioral sciences.
It has been observed that these two types of disorders often go hand in hand: it is estimated that around one third of people with cardiovascular disease also experience cognitive decline, but this is not diagnosed in around 50 to 80% of cases. In addition, these two types of conditions also tend to reinforce each other, beyond simply sharing risk factors, in that cardiovascular disease contributes to the development of cognitive decline, while the presence of cognitive disorders increases mortality by nearly 15% in patients with hypertension, particularly by delaying diagnosis.
After collecting and analyzing a set of relevant data, the project will focus on developing cutting-edge AI technologies, including the creation of a digital twin, which is at the heart of the intervention and will enable clinical data to be compared with real-world data from smart devices (smartwatches, smartphones, tablets) in order to improve the accuracy of healthcare. This innovative system, which combines digital coaching and exergames, will undergo a feasibility test as part of a pilot study before being rolled out to a larger group.
