The main goal of the thesis is to design, develop, and deploy FloatingContent services that enable QoS support in VANETs. Floating Content (FC) is an opportunistic communication paradigm for the local dissemination of information. FC enables probabilistic content storing in geographically constrained locations —denoted asAnchor Zone (AZ)— over a limited amount of time. FC techniques address the short-lived intermittent wireless connectivity in VANETsby enhancing content availability for delay-tolerant communications. Floating Content suits vehicular applications such as accident warn-ings, traffic jam notifications, and all such event-based messaging of local and relatively short temporal interest in VANET. Moreover, FC enables data offloading from the telecommunications infrastructure to V2V communication reducing infrastructure overload and deployment. For any practical application, content persistence over time within theAZ is only a necessary condition for FC viability. When the content persists, it is essential to characterize how often the FC paradigm delivers the content to the intended users.
